Citroën Hire Purchase FAQs
Do I own the car at the end of the lease?
With PCP (Personal Contract Purchase), you have three options at the end: 1) Pay the final balloon payment to own the car, 2) Return the car and walk away, or 3) Part-exchange for a new car. With HP (Hire Purchase), you own the car outright once all payments are complete.
What's the difference between PCP, HP, and Leasing?
PCP has lower monthly payments with a final balloon payment option to own the car. HP has higher monthly payments but you own the car at the end. Leasing is similar to PCP but you never own the car - you just return it and start a new lease.
How much is the deposit for a lease?
Deposits typically range from 3-12 months' payments. For Citroën vehicles, deposits usually start from £500 - £5,000. You can often reduce monthly payments by increasing your deposit, or keep deposits low for more manageable monthly costs.
Is insurance included in the lease?
No, insurance is not included in PCP or HP agreements. You'll need to arrange comprehensive car insurance separately. Some dealers offer insurance packages, but you're free to shop around for the best deal. Make sure to inform your insurer that the car is on finance.
What happens if I go over the mileage limit?
PCP agreements include an annual mileage limit (typically 8,000-15,000 miles). If you exceed this, you'll pay excess mileage charges (usually 5-15p per mile). HP agreements don't have mileage limits since you own the car. Consider your driving habits when choosing your mileage allowance.
Can I end the lease early?
Yes, but there are costs involved. You'll need to pay the remaining finance balance minus any rebate for early settlement. This can be expensive in the early years. Some agreements allow voluntary termination after paying 50% of the total amount, but check your specific terms.
What's included in the monthly payment?
Monthly payments cover the vehicle cost, interest, and any optional extras you've added. They don't include insurance, road tax, fuel, maintenance, or servicing. Some dealers offer service packages that can be added to your monthly payment for convenience.
Can I lease a car with bad credit?
It depends on your credit score and the lender's criteria. Some lenders specialise in bad credit car finance, but you may face higher interest rates or need a larger deposit. Citroën dealers often work with multiple lenders to find suitable finance options for different credit situations.
What are my options at the end of the lease?
With PCP: 1) Pay the balloon payment to own the car, 2) Return it and walk away (if in good condition), 3) Part-exchange for a new car. With HP: You own the car outright. You can keep it, sell it privately, or part-exchange for a new vehicle.
What happens if the car is damaged when I return it?
You'll be charged for any damage beyond fair wear and tear. This includes scratches, dents, interior damage, or missing items. The finance company will inspect the car and provide a damage report. Consider getting the car professionally cleaned and fixing minor issues before return to minimise charges.
